History

Foluso Oluleye National Sports Competition (FOSC) is also known as JCI Nigeria Olympics. All work and no play, they say, makes Jack a dull boy. This is particularly for members of JCI Ibadan who vigorously engage in numerous acts of community service, requiring mental alertness and physical fitness. Hence, the need for recreation cannot be overemphasized.

Over the years, the Easter period provides a conducive opportunity for reunion. The idea of having activities to include sports, picnics and parties during the Easter period was put together in 1982. The Chapter would invite other Chapters to participate, hence giving it a National outlook. Presentation of Trophies and awards are done ceremonially at special meetings or the National Convention.

In 1984, Foluso Oluleye, a geologist and staff of Brink Jones and Company Ltd won the squash competition, defeating Babajide Agbeja in the finals. However, before the presentation ceremony, he travelled with other members of the chapter for a wedding in Ilesha. While returning on 15th April 1984 (to receive his trophy), they were involved in a motor accident at Gbongan junction of Ife-lbadan road and Foluso Oluleye lost his life.

To preserve his memory, the Easter programme was renamed Foluso Oluleye Sports Competition. Up till date, members of JCI Nigeria across the country gather in Ibadan on Good Friday for the sports meet, picnic and party.

The Award Presentation now holds immediately after the event.
