Editor’s Note

One beautiful thing about a Yoruba compound is that it is never defined by the number of houses it contains or the height of the walls that surround it. Its true identity lies in the people who call it home. 

It comes alive through our shared laughter, conversations that linger into the evening, responsibilities carried together and the quiet assurance that no one journeys alone. It is where our elders guide with wisdom, neighbours become family, and every return through the gate is met with a warm, familiar welcome.

As I reflected on the story of JCI Ibadan this month, I realised that we have become something remarkably similar.

Over the years, we have built far more than a local organisation. Beyond the meetings, projects and programmes is a community held together by shared purpose, genuine friendships and an unwavering commitment to serve. 

We celebrate one another’s victories, stand beside each other through challenges and continue to show up because we have found more than a platform for leadership development—we have found a place where we belong.

That is the spirit of ÀGBÒ’LÉ.

As you journey through these pages, you will sit in our family meeting, listen to the wisdom of an elder, gather beneath the mango tree for meaningful conversations, witness the progress we are building together, celebrate those making us proud, welcome new members into the fold and relive the moments that continue to shape our story.

I hope that this edition does more than inform you. I hope it reminds you that every project you supported, every meeting you attended, every friendship you nurtured and every act of service you rendered has helped build the home we proudly call JCI Ibadan. Like every thriving family compound, our strength has never been in our structures or titles, but in our willingness to keep showing up for one another.

So, whether you are a long-standing member, a newly inducted Jaycee or a friend of our organisation, I invite you to step through the gate with an open heart.
