Dear Reader,

February is often assumed to be the season of love, and because it carries that reputation, we are easily tempted to reduce love to flowers, colours, romance, and a single day circled neatly on the calendar.

However, love has never been that simple; it comes in several shades.

Long before the cards and decorations, love has always had a history in service to humanity.

I mean, St. Valentine did not exactly paint love to be this always sweet, always soft life experience, but he did paint love as a responsibility.

Sometimes, love is sacrifice.

It is choosing to show up even when it is not convenient.

In JCI Ibadan, love lives even in our creed —
“Service to humanity is the best work of life.”

We interpret love in different shades: in the projects we commit to, the communities we reach, the members we mentor, the partnerships we nurture, and the GA2 conversations where laughter and honesty quietly strengthen bonds no formal agenda could manufacture. It is the discipline of doing the work well as an organisation, and the loyalty that keeps us building, even when the spotlight is not on us.

This edition, Shades of Love, reflects our deeper expressions — love in leadership, love in friendship, love in collaboration, love in impact.

As you flip through the pages of this edition, I hope you see that the love we celebrate in JCI Ibadan is not seasonal. It is steady, intentional, and long after the celebratory season fades, it is the reason we keep showing up.

Warm regards,
Olubunmi Apantaku
Editorial Chairman, JCI Ibadan
